The second IAEA regional training course on Infrastructure Development and Safety Assessment of WWER/PWR with Advanced Safety Features

At the ROSATOM-CICE&T on 14, November 2016 the second two-week IAEA regional training course on Infrastructure Development and Safety Assessment of WWER/PWR with Advanced Safety Features was started under the framework of the Technical Cooperation Project (TC Project RER9144) “Building Capacity for Infrastructure Development and Safety Assessment of Water Cooled Water Moderated Power Reactor Technology with Advanced Safety Features: the Case of WWER/PWR”. This Project is aimed at building the necessary competencies in the area of safety assessment in the countries interested in WWER/PWR technologies.

Representatives of 6 countries (Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia, Belarus and Russian Federation) participate in this IAEA regional training course as trainees. The course was opened by lectures of the OKB “GIDROPRESS” expert Dr. Maxim Uvakin.

Among the trainers from Russian side are the leading experts from the following organizations: OKB “GIDROPRESS”, National Research Centre “Kurchatov Institute”, RFNC-VNIIEF (Sarov), FSUE NITI (Sosnovy Bor), IBRAE RAN (Moscow), SSC RF – IPPE (Obninsk) and ROSATOM-CICE&T.

The severe accident management as a key item of the course’s programme will be presented by the IAEA expert Dr. Ivica Basic.   The course’s programme is focused on the Russian computer codes used for safety assessment of nuclear installations and nuclear power plants (NPP) with WWER and PWR. The codes developers give an overview of current status and performance capabilities of the codes and conduct master classes and demonstrations of the codes application. A distinctive feature of this course is to significantly increase the share of practical exercises to better understand the safety related phenomena in the technological system of NPP.
